The family business was established in 1910 and mainly focused on the outdoor cultivation of different kind of vegetables. The nursery was originally established in Leidschendam. In 1973, Frank Hendriks started within the company as the third generation. When the company had to make space for housing construction in 1980, Frank moved his company to Berkel en Rodenrijs . After the cultivation of cucumbers and tomatoes, the cultivation of bell peppers was chosen in 1992.
In the years after 2000, the fourth generation Hendriks started within the company. In 2005, Teun started independent at a new location in Bergschenhoek, followed by Eléonore and Lennert. After two successful years, it led to a merger between the parental company and the one in Bergschenhoek in 2007. The old company was sold, followed by the building of the current location at the Hendrik Driessenweg 6 in Berkel en Rodenrijs. The daily management of the company, which was called Oostland Company, was now in the hands of Teun, Eléonore, and Lennert. Frank Hendriks stayed active as an advisor within the company.
Nowadays, Oostland Company cultivates, sorts and packs, fully independent around 25 million bell peppers on a yearly basis, with a minimum of 98% first class quality. Sorting and packaging of the bell peppers is done at the headquarter in Berkel en Rodenrijs. Since 2013, the company is also responsible for their own sales.
Quality and reliability are key. eir own sales. Quality and reliability are key. Since 2019 the sales activities are represented by Diosa Fruit BV., which is a sister company of Oostland Company.
Oostland Company is a young and dynamic business. The energized sales team lays their full focus on the sales tasks and finds it important to have close contact with customers and relations.
In 2018, the next step was taken to make the company more sustainable. Our building, with its big oblique and flat roofs, has the ideal structure for solar panels. 1.457 solar panels are installed on the roof of our sorting and packaging hall, and every solar panel will be estimated to produce 252 kWh sustainable solar energy each year. The green energy of the solar panels is used for refrigerating the bell peppers (to maintain their quality), the sorting machines and the technical installations for the cultivation and nursery of the bell peppers in the greenhouse. We decided to finance this sustainable investment through crowdfunding organization Zonnepanelendelen.nlThis means that people who do not have the perfect roof at home, can invest and profit from the generated sustainable energy.
Oostland Company developed its own cultivation recipe, which would only be adjusted if there is a clear added value. Part of our cultivation method is a maximum use of organic crop protection, to minimize the effect on the planet and humans. Therefore, Oostland Company satisfies the current regulations. The company has all the required certifications. Through the chosen method, Oostland Company is able to continuously deliver high- and reliable quality bell peppers.
Oostland Company cultivates bell peppers in red and yellow. High-quality varieties are specifically chosen, which are also suitable for international export. The cultivation process takes place accurately and the crops always receive the right care and attention. The substrates are replaced every year and the greenhouses are coated in the spring for better quality in summer. The use of double screens also reduces energy consumption.
Oostland Company sorts all bell peppers at the headquarter in Berkel en Rodenrijs, after the process is completed, the bell peppers get wrapped. This can be done in any kind of packaging and size. The wish of our client is most important. The bell peppers are sold with our own brand “Njoy Vegetables”, which stands for quality and reliability. Njoy Vegetables are wrapped in recognizable and attractive black boxes, but also different packaging forms, e.g. pool cask, and folding crates. If desired, customization can be provided. Please contact Diosa Fruit for all available options.
By keeping the sales in-house, customization can be delivered for every customer. The direct contact with customers will ensure that the bell peppers will be fast and freshly delivered. The perfect location close to the highways A4, A12, and A20 adds an important extra logistical factor, which will get the products to their destination faster. If you would like to have the delivery terms and conditions, this can be provided by Diosa Fruit. Oostland Company regularly works together with different companies within and outside the horticulture.
